European 4-in-1 Ring Project

European 4-in-1 is one of the oldest chainmaille weaves, and is the weave that is most well known for being used for armor in medieval days. It’s called “European” because it was more commonly used in Europe, as opposed to Japanese 4-in-1, which was also used for armor but has a different weave structure, and was more commonly used for armor in Japan.European 4-in-1 is often shortened in name to Euro 4-1, E4, or anything in-between. While it is frequently the first weave many chainmaillers learn, I consider it to be more of an intermediate weave instead of a beginner weave, due to the number of things that can go wrong if weave patterns and rules aren’t followed. It doesn’t necessarily build off of any simpler chainmaille weave (except technically a simple cable or 2-in-1 chain), but it can still be worth getting some general experience in simpler weaves before taking on European 4-in-1.European 4-in-1 does not have a weave direction or handedness. However, when we learn to weave it on the bias, we will have the option of deciding which direction the bias leans. Also, the left-handed perspective videos for any bias projects are going to result in the bias forming in the opposite direction of the associated right-handed perspective videos. This means that you literally see the same thing I see when I’m filming.I am right-handed, and as such I film the videos from a right-handed perspective. However, every weaving video is copied and then flipped horizontally, to show the left-handed perspective as well.
