Graduated Mobius Earrings Project

Mobius is a an individual chainmaille unit, oftentimes called a “Mobius Ball”, “Mobius Rosette”, or “Mobius Knot”. For simplicity’s sake, I’m just going to stick with “Mobius”. It’s a circular unit, and not a continuous weave like other chainmaille weaves. However, it can be used as an accent or woven together in a variety of ways, adding a nice bit of visual interest to a lot of chainmaille designs.A single Mobius unit can be woven in two different ways: clockwise, or counterclockwise. However, there’s not great consensus within the chainmaille community on exactly which one is which. It’s a spiraling unit, and if you start from the inside and spiral out, you’ll be going the opposite direction than if you started from the outside and spiraled into the center. Since I try to avoid direction-based instructions in my videos anyway (because I flip the right-handed video to create the left-handed video), it works out well for me to avoid using the terms “clockwise” or “counterclockwise” altogether.We’ll talk about why the direction of the Mobius spiral matters, and how to properly string Mobius units together to avoid twisting.Recommended Prerequisite Courses:<ul><li><a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.theartisanacademy.com/course-detail/chainmaille-basics/13370/">Chainmaille Basics</a></li></ul>I film these courses using my phone, and I position the phone in such a way that it is between me and what I’m weaving, causing me to use the phone’s screen to see what I’m working on. This means that you literally see the same thing I see when I’m filming.I am right-handed, and as such I film the videos from a right-handed perspective. However, every weaving video is copied and then flipped horizontally, to show the left-handed perspective as well.
