River 4-in-1 is a flat and slinky weave with a rectangular profile. This weave makes an excellent bracelet, necklace, or wallet chain.River 4-in-1 is most commonly known in the chainmaille community as “Half Persian 4-in-1”, or “HP 4-1”. However, I personally don’t love that name, because the weave has nothing to do with Persian history. The person first credited with documenting and naming the weave online is Mead Simon, and he named this family of weaves “Persian” because he loves the Persian culture —&nbsp;not because of any historical or visual connection between it and the Persian culture. Plus, the word “Persian” will sometimes get flagged online for possible illegal activity by payment processors such as PayPal, sometimes creating headaches for chainmaille educators and sellers. For these reasons, I personally like to call this weave River 4-in-1.We’ll discuss the fundamental structures of this weave, helping to mentally simplify and understand its structure, and create simple rules for ensuring that the next ring is always woven into the correct position. We’ll also discuss tapering the ends, to give it a more finished look.Recommended Prerequisite Courses:<ul><li><a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.theartisanacademy.com/course-detail/chainmaille-basics/13370/">Chainmaille Basics</a></li></ul>I film these courses using my phone, and I position the phone in such a way that it is between me and what I’m weaving, causing me to use the phone’s screen to see what I’m working on. This means that you literally see the same thing I see when I’m filming.I am right-handed, and as such I film the videos from a right-handed perspective. However, every weaving video is copied and then flipped horizontally, to show the left-handed perspective as well.
